History
The Sardine Room opened on November 8,
1998 at its current location on Henry Street in the West
Village Plaza. The unique building once housed a Comerica
Branch Bank and later a Hungry Howie’s Pizza place
(contrary to popular belief it was never an Arby’s).
It’s most notable feature is the striking 20 foot
arched ceiling in the bar area adorned with a mural by West
Michigan artist Michael Pfleghaar. The restaurant also features
a stone fireplace and a beautiful marble bar. The upscale,
yet comfortable, warm and inviting interior was designed
by another talented area designer, Tyler Deveroux.
In May of 2000 the original owner, Hoby
Thrasher, sold the Sardine Room to the manager, Dave
Biesiada, and chef, Chris
Anderson. Dave and Chris, Muskegon natives and graduates
of Mona Shores High School, bring 40 years of restaurant
experience between them to the Sardine Room.
The Sardine Room has developed a reputation
as one of the premier restaurants in West Michigan with
its great food, cozy atmosphere and professional, friendly
service. It has truly become a “destination”
in Muskegon, drawing diners from Pentwater and Ludington,
to Grand Haven and Holland and even Grand Rapids.
In June 2004, Dave and Chris completed
work on the outdoor patio. It is beautifully furnished and
decorated with large hanging flower baskets and flowering
hibiscus trees. The patio seats 30 and is open for lunch
and dinner. Cocktails and the full menu are available on
the patio.
Whether you are entertaining important
business clients or out of town guests; celebrating a special
event in your life or just looking for a great place to
dine, come experience Muskegon’s favorite place, the
Sardine Room. You’ll be glad you did!
